As expected, Samsung announced two new mobile processors at MWC 2014, but they are not called Exynos Infinity, and they are not 64-bit-ready.
First, we have the Samsung Exynos 5422 Octa, a high-end application processor that includes eight cores: four ARM Cortex-A15 cores clocked at up to 2.1 GHz, and four smaller ARM Cortex-A7 cores clocked at up to 1.5 GHz. The 5422 uses 28nm technology, and comes with Samsung's optimized big.LITTLE HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing), being capable of delivering up to 34% higher performance than the company’s previous Exynos Octa processors.
The Exynos 5422 will enter mass production this quarter - which means that a Galaxy S5 version using it could be available as soon as April (when the Qualcomm variant of the new handset will be officially released).
The second new processor announced by Samsung is the Exynos 5 Hexa (Exynos 5260). This, of course, is the SoC that’s inside the recently announced Galaxy Note 3 Neo, offering six CPU cores: two 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A15 cores, and four 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex-A7 cores. The Exynos 5260 is already in production.
Both new Exynos processors support high-resolution displays, including Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) and WQXGA (2560 x 1600 pixels). Thus, a Quad HD version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 might be introduced later this year - but that’s just us speculating.
